Everybody Matters

Y4 Dümmersee Residential - May 2010

Day One:

Today was our first day at the Dümmersee. It took a long ride to get here, but it was worth it.

When we got there we had a tour from Spike. Then we had a briefing about what to do if there was a fire.

Next we were given our wetsuits and we put them on our pegs. After this we had our lunch, we had chicken nuggets and pasta.

We were all given table jobs after lunch - such as clearing the table and sweeping up.Then we change into our wet gear – our wetsuits were quite tight!

When we got outside we learned about windsurfing. We had to put our sail together ourselves. It was a little tricky at first!

After this, we put our boards on the sand and played in the water for a little while. Then we put our sails and boards in the water. Before we knew it, it was time for tea! It was a struggle to get our wetsuits off, but we are really looking forward to having another go tomorrow.

Day Two:

We’ve had a fantastic time so far. We were quite excited, so it took us a while to sleep last night.

Today for breakfast we had a fry up, it was delicious.

After breakfast we had our room inspection then came downstairs for our briefing of the day.

Later on we got into our wetsuits and went sailing. We put our Pico boats together yesterday, so we could get straight into them today.

It was quite cold when we first got into the water but we got a bit warmer once we were in our boats. We used the rudder and the sail to control where we went.

After this we had a quick lunch then went back for more sailing, this time we used double-sided paddles. It was great fun!

The other group had a great time windsurfing in the morning, then in the afternoon they went on a boat called Moby Dick.

Yesterday the wind surfing group and Spike’s two Husky dogs went on a boat called Moby Dick to the other side of the lake !It was freezing!  On the way we played games like eye spy… when we turned around it was really wobbly because the wind was pushing the sails and then I got frightened and started to cry. Then Spike gave me a walky-talky so I could talk to Captain Birds Eye.  Bradley had a go and he said to Captain Birds Eye that we were pirates, it was funny.

Then we got off and had to walk off the jetty to the main room, and we got a warm hot drink of coffee or tea. Me and Megan had coffee.

Day Three:

Today we had a lovely continental breakfast. We couldn’t go windsurfing or sailing today because it was windy and foggy, so we played beach games instead.

We also played water volley ball – and we beat the teachers!

There was a fire alarm practice today – we all knew what to do because we had been briefed on it.

We had fish and chips for lunch today, it was lovely.

After lunch we went on a treasure hunt – it was difficult because there were lots of clues to follow, but we completed it in the end. Then we had a delicious roast dinner. After this Mr Turner and his family came to visit us.

Day Four:

Today we felt fresh when we woke up. We went downstairs for our breakfast, which was a fry up. After this, we had our briefing for the day. Next we put our wetsuits on and went outside. Today we swapped groups, which meant we had a turn at sailing. At first we found it hard to steer and our boat kept drifting.

After this, we came in and had a nice warm cup of juice. Some of the sailors had a go at paddle boarding, it was fun.

Then we helped bring all the equipment in and got ready for lunch. For lunch today we had chicken nuggets.

After lunch we went sailing over to Pirate Island, we all had a go at steering the boat, it was great!

When we got to Pirate Island we played Rounders and had a mini-picnic. Soon after this, it was time to go back to the Dümmersee. The boat dropped us off at the souvenir shop, which was very fortunate because we could all buy something. Then we walked back and it was time for the BBQ. Later we will be having a disco and karaoke, we can’t wait!

Today we did windsurfing rather than sailing because we switched over. We got our wetsuits on first and then we did balance practice. Sometimes we fell off because it was quite hard. Then we put our sail on and started windsurfing. Soon we had a race and we all tried our best. Some of us got cold but we all had fun!
