Y6 Residential to the Harz -
Y6 children from Blankenhagen School recently went on a residential trip to the Harz Mountains. We stayed in the Sonnenberg Hotel.
As we set off on our long journey, all the children were buzzing with excitement; we all couldn’t wait to get there.
Monday
On the way to Sonnenberg we stopped at Wurmberg. Wurmberg is an activity place with cable cars which we went up on. At the top of the mountain we found an Olympic ski slope .We climbed up the ski slope (it was agony) but the amazing view was worth it.
After that we travelled to Sonnenberg hotel, where we rapidly unpacked went to our rooms, had showers, unpacked our suitcases then relaxed in our rooms until tea. After tea we played outside and some of us went for a walk in the woods and others stayed and played a bit of football. At around 7:30 pm we got into our pjs ready to write our diaries. At 9:00 pm we went to our rooms then at 9:30 pm and it was lights out, so off we went to bed.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we went to Goslar town to do a bit of shopping (yes). We went around town going to different kinds of shops. The first shop we went to was a glass shop where there were lots of interesting things. Then we went to a wood shop which had all sorts of things in and out side. At the back they had some metal chairs that were shaped as men and women. We went to numerous gift shops to buy postcards and presents.
After that we went for an ice-
Later on we went to a mine museum. We learnt about the miners, where they worked and what they used for tools. When we came out of the museum, we found that we had only been 365 cm underground…but we thought that we had been at least 365 metres underground! We had been tricked!
Wednesday
On Wednesday we went to a cave museum which was fascinating. We learned lots about stalagmites and drip stone. We got a chance to see fossils and statues.
Once our tour was over, we headed to a place called the Arena to do a high rope course. First we got harnessed up, then we were shown how to climb on a small practice course and then we were on our own…! The high rope course was really difficult. There was lots of screaming and shouting because we were really scared but excited at the same time.
Thursday
On Thursday morning we went to Wernigerode Schloss (castle). We went round a tour of the castle then went to the gift shop.
In the afternoon we went to Brocken coaster. It was great fun. The Brocken coaster is like a roller coaster but you sit in a cart and control the lever and off you go. It was a bit scary at first so some people went with a partner but the second time nearly everyone went on their own.
In the evening, we had a brilliant disco which was great fun. The food, drink and dancing were all outstanding!
Friday
On Friday morning we went back to The Arena to do a 300 meter zip wire .First we got strapped into harnesses but different ones from last time then we put our helmets on. After that we climbed up a ladder and waited on the platform.
Once we had all had a go on the zip wire it was time to start heading home. We were
excited but sad at the same time-
When it was lunch time we stopped off to eat but in no time we were back on the road. At about 3:00 pm we were safely back in school grounds.
We were all happy to be home again but unfortunately that was the end of our school trip.
